Rolling Hills Farmstead

About Us

A Legacy Rooted in Passion and Sustainability

In 2020, Ron Samuels acquired a beautiful 20-hectare property known as Rolling Hills Farmstead. Ron’s love for farming, combined with his family’s deep-rooted connection to the agricultural way of life, spans over two decades. Over the years, the Samuels family has had the privilege of owning and nurturing six farms, each adding to their rich farming heritage.

After years of balancing a corporate career with “weekend farming,” Ron shared a vision with his son, Justin – a dream to establish a sustainable farming business that could be passed down through generations. When the opportunity to purchase Rolling Hills Farmstead arose, Ron agreed to invest – on one condition: that Justin would take on the responsibility of managing the farm full-time. With passion and dedication, Justin and his partner, Tiaan, now oversee the day-to-day operations, ensuring that Ron’s vision for the farm continues to flourish.

Ron’s daughters, Bianca and Claudine, also share a deep love for the farm and frequently visit with their husbands and Ron’s grandchildren, creating cherished family memories and enjoying the unique farm experience

From Livestock to Sustainable Agritourism

Initially, Rolling Hills Farmstead began operations in 2020 with livestock farming, focusing on Dohne Merino sheep, producing both wool and meat. However, with the challenges of rising feed prices and the limited land available for scaling operations, Ron made a pivotal decision to diversify the farm’s activities.

Inspired by Ron’s previous success with his guest farm, Olive Grove, near Beaufort West – where he developed a love for farm-based hospitality – the family decided to incorporate agritourism into Rolling Hills Farmstead. In December 2024, the farm celebrated the completion of its first eco-friendly, off-grid 2-bedroom chalet, offering visitors an immersive farm experience just 90 minutes from Cape Town.

The long-term vision includes the gradual development of five additional eco-chalets, catering to the increasing demand for sustainable and tranquil getaway accommodations.

Sustainability at the Core

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Rolling Hills Farmstead. We take pride in utilizing 18 hectares of our land for the annual production of high-quality grains, while also offering a diverse range of farm-fresh products, including:

  • Overberg lamb, renowned for its rich flavor and quality

  • Fresh dairy products from our beloved Jersey cow, Tessa, and our family of milk goats

  • Farm-fresh eggs from our free-range chickens

  • Seasonal vegetables, grown with care and free from harmful chemicals

All of our livestock and produce are free-range, and our accommodations are designed with eco-conscious principles, ensuring minimal environmental impact. This aligns perfectly with our vision – to live and produce sustainably, preserving the land for future generations.

Whether you’re looking to enjoy a serene farm stay, indulge in farm-fresh products, or experience the joy of sustainable living, Rolling Hills Farmstead offers a slice of countryside bliss, where family values and sustainability go hand in hand.

We look forward to welcoming you to our farm, where every visit is an experience to remember.
